Electronic sign-in is now available
|
Pilots are required to sign in with the rangers every day before setting up or flying a glider at Mt. Tam. There is still a sign-in box at Pantoll, but pilots now have the option to sign in from home. Just click the Sign In button here, or type: mchga.org/signin 07/17/24 |
The 5-Glider Rule has been rescinded!
The club has finally persuaded the Park Service to eliminate the infamous "5 Glider Rule", which limited us to 5 hang gliders and 2 paragliders out of the bag at once at any launch site. Pilots are still asked to be considerate of others when setting up. 04/04/25
The Winter issue of our club newsletter is now available
Check out the Winter issue, here. 12/08/2025
Our weather station has been removed from service
Thanks to the inflexibility of AT&T, the telephone service for our weather station has become prohibitively expensive. Therefore the service has been discontinued. 02/17/23
Commercial instructors restricted
Due to insurance requirements, commercial flight instructors may no longer bring students to fly at Mt Tam, unless the instructor first satisfies three conditions: 1) they must provide site insurance for Tam, 2) they must not accept any compensation for their activities at Tam, and 3) they must be approved by the club. In the mean time, the club's novice hang glider program and the club's intermediate paraglider sponsorship program will resume using qualified non-commercial instructors and pilots. 01/08/21
Expanded membership
MCHGA is now happy to include paraglider pilots in the club. In effect since May of 2016, paragliding at Mt. Tam is administered and regulated exclusively by MCHGA. 05/06/16
Site update:
- There is currently no windsock at launch. Bring your own, and be sure to take it with you after flying. 09/21/16
-
Much of our sand has returned, making acceess to our alleyway somewhat easier.

However, be aware that high tides can still limit our LZ. So, be sure to check the beach before flying. 10/13/24 - We have a new windsock posted at the end of the alleyway, for landings. 10/31/24
- The Seadrift sign has washed away, again! Please continue to land south of our alleyway (Walla Vista.) 12/16/25
