Club newsletters are happening again

Thanks to our new editor, we are now producing newsletters again, for the first time in over 15 years. Check out the current issue, below.

Mt Tam is open again

The park is currently open. Expect delays along Panoramic near the Alpine Club, where road work is still under way.

Our weather station has been removed from service

Thanks to the inflexibility of AT&T, the telephone service for our weather station has become prohibitively expensive. Therefore the service has been discontinued.

Commercial instructors restricted

Due to insurance requirements, commercial flight instructors may no longer bring students to fly at Mt Tam, unless the instructor first satisfies three conditions: 1) they must provide site insurance for Tam, 2) they must not accept any compensation for their activities at Tam, and 3) they must be approved by the club. In the mean time, the club's novice hang glider program and the club's intermediate paraglider sponsorship program will resume using qualified non-commercial instructors and pilots.

Expanded membership

MCHGA is now happy to include paraglider pilots in the club. In effect since May of 2016, paragliding at Mt. Tam is administered and regulated exclusively by MCHGA.

Site update:

  • There is currently no windsock at launch. Bring your own, and be sure to take it with you after flying.
  • The sand level on our beach has been drastically reduced by recent storms. It is below the bottom of the sandbag steps.

Be aware that there may be no beach on a medium to high tide. So, be sure to check the beach before flying.
  • We have a new windsock posted at the end of the alleyway, for landings.
  • The Seadrift sign has washed away, again! Please continue to land south of our alleyway (Walla Vista.)
